Preview: Elizabethton Fighting Cyclones vs. Tennessee Vikings

Elizabethton is 7-1 against the Vikings since November of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Elizabethton Fighting Cyclones will head out on the road to take on the Tennessee Vikings at 6:30 p.m.

After a string of three wins, Elizabethton's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 52-51 to David Crockett. While losing is never fun, Elizabethton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 101st, while the Pioneers are ranked 18th).

Meanwhile, even though Sullivan East scored an imposing 57 points on Tuesday, Tennessee still came out on top. Everything went Tennessee's way against the Patriots as the Vikings made off with a 81-57 win. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Tennessee had established a 20 point advantage.

Tennessee can attribute much of their success to Addie Wilhoit, who scored 21 points along with five assists, and Anna kate Kinch, who scored 20 points along with four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Keeyanah Foote, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Elizabethton's loss dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Tennessee, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season.

Elizabethton strolled past the Vikings in their previous matchup last Monday by a score of 61-47. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Wilhoit, who scored 20 points. Now that she's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Elizabethton still be able to contain Wilhoit? There's only one way to find out.
