Baseball Recap: Rutherford Extends Winning Streak to Three

Rutherford had already won two in a row and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Hawthorne Bears. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won six matches by ten runs or more so far this season.

Andrew Erickson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Erickson was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Chris Gioia was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Myles Balchan was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.

Rutherford kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.

Rutherford's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Hawthorne, they moved to 6-3 with that defeat, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

Looking ahead, Rutherford will challenge Lyndhurst at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Bulldogs 2.3, the Golden Bears 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Hawthorne, they will venture away from home to square off against Wood-Ridge at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
