Chapman took a six-run defeat the last time they faced off against Marysville, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Irish had just enough and edged out the Bulldogs 8-7 on Tuesday. This was payback for the Irish, who suffered an 8-2 loss the last time these two teams met.

Benson Smiley was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Smiley was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Aven Woods was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That home run marked the first that he launched this season. Connor Cote-Boss was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.

Chapman kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Chapman's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-2. As for Marysville, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Bulldogs beat Chapman by a score of 16-11 later that day.
