Basketball Recap: Veritas Prep Drops Highest Score of Season Against Santa Cruz Valley

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Veritas Prep). They blew past the Santa Cruz Valley Dust Devils, posting a 63-27 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Falcons have posted since January 26, 2024.

Veritas Prep's win on Monday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Valeria Castaneda, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds. Castaneda continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Cate Schneider, who made all 7 shots she took racking up 15 points and four steals.

Veritas Prep was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Santa Cruz Valley's loss came despite strong showings from Zaryah Bursey and Mionette Banda. Bursey posted 11 points, while Banda earned eight points. Those eight points gave Banda a new career-high.

The victory made it two in a row for Veritas Prep and bumps their season record up to 8-11. As for Santa Cruz Valley, they dropped their record down to 3-12 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road.
