Baseball Recap: Daviess County Extends Road Winning Streak to Five

Daviess County's game on Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They came out on top against the Grayson County Cougars by a score of 6-2. This was payback for the Panthers, who suffered a 4-2 loss the last time these two teams met.

Weston Lawrence looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Daviess County is 3-1 when Lawrence allows three or fewer earned runs, but 6-7 otherwise.

At the plate, Logan Mewes was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024. Lucas Ward was another key player, getting on base in two of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

Daviess County's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-8. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Grayson County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-10.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Daviess County will take on Christian County at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Grayson County, they will face off against Edmonson County at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Wildcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.73 runs per game on average), something the Cougars will no doubt try to take advantage of.
