Softball Game Preview: Castaic Coyotes vs. Bishop Diego Cardinals

The Castaic Coyotes will face off against the Bishop Diego Cardinals at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses for Castaic and five for Bishop Diego.

Castaic fell victim to Canyon and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They fell just short of the Cowboys by a score of 1-0.

Kate Eppenbaugh spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Tatum McAfee was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Samantha Farell, who went 1-for-2 with one triple.

Bishop Diego couldn't beat Coastal Christian on Thursday even though they stacked five runs on them in the fourth inning. The Cardinals took a 9-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Conquerors.

Anna Fittipaldi made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Chelsea Hayes, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one double.

Bishop Diego's loss dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Castaic, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-13.

Saturday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Castaic hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .338. However, it's not like Bishop Diego struggles in that department as they've averaged .347. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
