Baseball Game Preview: Laney Buccaneers vs. Pinecrest Patriots

Laney hasn't had much luck against Pinecrest recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Buccaneers will head out on the road to take on the Patriots at 4:00 p.m. Laney will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.

Laney had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Randleman on Monday. The Buccaneers never let the Tigers get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. Considering the Buccaneers have won seven games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Laney got a big performance out of Trent Fowler, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2. What's more, Fowler posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Carston Wedemeyer, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-3.

Meanwhile, Pinecrest posted their closest victory since March 25th on Monday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against New Hanover, sneaking past 5-4. The win was familiar territory for the Patriots, who have now won three matchups in a row.

The team relied heavily on Liam Dutton, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Mitch Baek was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Laney pushed their record up to 13-4 with the victory, which was their eighth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Pinecrest, their record is now 13-6.
