Basketball Recap: John Simmons Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat St. James

There's no place like home for Myrtle Beach, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. They enjoyed a cozy 62-47 win over the St. James Sharks on Tuesday. For the Seahawks, this counts as revenge for the 55-46 victory the Sharks walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2023.

Myrtle Beach's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was John Simmons, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. Simmons is crushing it when it comes to boards: he's pulled down at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of James Watson, who went 8 of 19 on his way to 19 points and three steals.

Myrtle Beach's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-4. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.0 points per game. As for St. James, their loss dropped their record down to 7-5.

Myrtle Beach and St. James could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings. Myrtle Beach (ranked 100th) will meet Conway (ranked 18th) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, St. James (ranked 91st) will meet Carolina Forest (ranked 20th) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
