Preview: Madison Mavericks vs. SA Roosevelt Rough Riders
Madison is 2-8 against SA Roosevelt since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Madison Mavericks on the road again and play against the SA Roosevelt Rough Riders at 10:00 a.m. on January 20th. Hopefully Madison is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than SA Roosevelt in Texas (Madison is ranked 148th, while SA Roosevelt is ranked 520th).
Even though Churchill scored an imposing 57 points on Wednesday, Madison still came out on top. Madison escaped with a win against Churchill by the margin of a single free throw, 58-57.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Madison to victory, but perhaps none more so than Davion Huff, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Caden Cooper, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Meanwhile, SA Roosevelt pushed their score all the way to 60 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 61-60 to Lee. The game was a 25-25 toss-up at halftime, but SA Roosevelt was outscored by Lee in the second.
Madison's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-9. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.3 points per game. As for SA Roosevelt, their loss dropped their record down to 10-17.
Madison beat SA Roosevelt 73-63 in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Madison since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
