League recap: Northwestern tops Cumberland to extend winning streak

Northwestern extended the longest winning streak in Heart O'North this week by beating Cumberland, 30-14. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Tigers.

Chetek-Weyerhaeuser moved up to 281 from 322 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Bulldogs were able to make the jump by beating Ladysmith 14-13.

The Beavers' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Kyle Narges threw for 215 and one touchdown and Travis Miller had 98 yards receiving. On the ground Zach Nyhus chipped in 31 yards. Nyhus helped Cumberland's passing attack out by catching four balls for 63 yards.

Conor Erb made the biggest impact on defense this week as Cumberland fell to Northwestern. The senior recorded one fumble.

Cumberland's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Beavers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Narges has thrown for 830 yards and 12 touchdowns this season, while Damen Feiertag has 11 catches for 277 yards. Nyhus leads the league in rushing with 451 yards.

A big matchup in Heart O'North this week will be when Barron takes on Ray Kosey's team. The Golden Bears are currently in fourth, while the Tigers are in first.

Barron was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to fourth in the league. Earlier in the week, the Golden Bears defeated Hayward/Lac Courte Oreilles 24-21.
