Recap: Thayer Academy Tigers vs. Governor's Academy Governors
The Thayer Academy Tigers''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fifth straight loss. They received a tough blow as they fell 38-21 to Governor's Academy. Thayer Academy lost against Governor's Academy in their previous head to head back in October of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 36-8 score last time.
When it comes to explaining why Thayer Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Nate Austin-Johnstone. Despite the final result, he picked up 134 receiving yards and a touchdown, and also punched in two touchdowns on the ground. Austin-Johnstone's longest reception was for an incredible 70 yards.
Thayer Academy's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 1-5. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 13.0 points per game. As for Governor's Academy, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Thayer Academy will square off against Groton School at 2:45 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Massachusetts (Groton School is ranked 48th, while Thayer Academy is ranked 40th). As for Governor's Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Lawrence Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Lawrence Academy is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
