The Morningside Academy Eagles will challenge the Dreyfoos School of the Arts Jaguars at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Morningside Academy has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
On Friday, Morningside Academy didn't have too much trouble with Greenacres Christian as they won 59-45.
Morningside Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Andrew Rowell out in front who went 7 for 10 on his way to 18 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Bell, who posted 14 points and eight rebounds.
Morningside Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in six consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Dreyfoos School of the Arts came into Thursday's matchup having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They really took it to Village Academy for the full four quarters, racking up a 58-18 victory. With the Jaguars ahead 40-9 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
Morningside Academy better keep an eye on Tyson Jimerson. He was instrumental in Dreyfoos School of the Arts' win, dropping a double-double on 34 points and 15 boards. Jimerson is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last seven games he's played. James Griffin was another key player, going 5 of 9 on his way to 11 points and seven rebounds.
Morningside Academy's win bumped their record up to 8-6. As for Dreyfoos School of the Arts, their victory bumped their record up to 3-7.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Morningside Academy has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 30.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Dreyfoos School of the Arts struggles in that department as they've been averaging 30.6 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
