Softball Preview: Nichols Vikings vs. Mount Mercy Academy Magic        
        
		
            
 Nichols is 7-2 against Mount Mercy Academy since April of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success  on Thursday. The Nichols Vikings have the luxury  of staying home for another  game and will welcome the Mount Mercy Academy Magic at 4:30  p.m. Nichols will be strutting in after a  win while Mount Mercy Academy will be coming in after a  loss.
 Last Tuesday,  it was close, but  Nichols sidestepped Mount St. Mary Academy for  a  4-3 victory.
  Reyes Rodriguez made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she  tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned  (and two unearned) runs off   four  hits. Rodriguez has been consistent recently: she hasn't  pitched less than six  innings in four consecutive pitching appearances. Rodriguez was also big at the plate,  going 2-for-2 with a  double.
 In other batting news,  the team  relied heavily on  Ryann O'Carroll, who  scored two  runs and  stole a base while going 2-for-2.  Gabriella Seneca was another key contributor,  going 1-for-3 with a  triple, a  run,  and  an  RBI.
 Meanwhile, Mount Mercy Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch  on Wednesday as the team picked up their fifth straight  defeat. They fell just short of Sacred Heart Academy by a score of  1-0.
 Mount Mercy Academy saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was  Taylor Jahn, who  went 2-for-3 with two  doubles.
 Nichols' win  ended  a  six-game drought at home  dating back to last season and  bumped them up to 3-9. As for Mount Mercy Academy, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 3-9.
 Nichols took their  victory against Mount Mercy Academy  when the teams last played  back in April by a conclusive  12-6. Does  Nichols have another victory up their sleeve, or will Mount Mercy Academy turn the tables on them?  We'll have the answer soon enough.
