Basketball Recap: Yorktown Comes Up Short

Yorktown came up into this matchup off a tough 27-point defeat last Friday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Shelbyville Golden Bears by a score of 48-46 on Saturday. The Tigers' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it four in a row.

Despite the loss, Yorktown still got an impressive performance from Austin Kates, who went 6 for 14 on his way to 14 points in addition to seven boards and four steals. Those seven rebounds gave Kates a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jabin Barnes, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 10 points and five rebounds.

Yorktown now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Shelbyville, their win bumped their record up to 6-2.

Yorktown and Columbus East will round out the year against one another at at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Yorktown is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.4 points per game this season. After both having extra time off, Shelbyville and Franklin Community will dust off their jerseys to square off against one another at 7:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
