Baseball Recap: Charter Oak Gets the Win

Charter Oak was forced to take a big defeat against they on Tuesday, they got the better of them on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over the Covina Colts. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Chargers have posted since April 2nd.

Marcus Reese tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over 5.1 innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Joaquin Cervantes was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Charter Oak's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 7-11 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Martin Luna, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

With the victory, Charter Oak broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 9-12. As for Covina, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-13 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Charter Oak will venture away from home to face off against West Covina at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The Bulldogs will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Chargers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Covina, they are taking a road trip to challenge Rowland at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The Colts are facing the Raiders at the right time seeing as the Raiders are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
