Softball Recap: Eastern Comes Up Short

Eastern extended their losing streak to four on Monday, dropping their season record down to 3-22 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Clinton Prairie Gophers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Gophers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-3 back in April.

Eastern saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Maddy Stevens, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.

As for Clinton Prairie, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 15-7 record. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since April 29th.

On Clinton Prairie's side, Sadie Weliver was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Weliver was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Eastern will take on Tri-Central at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Trojans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.44 runs per game on average), something the Comets will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Clinton Prairie, they will challenge Traders Point Christian at 7:30 p.m. on the 27th.
