Orono waltzed into their matchup on Friday with four straight wins... but they left with five. It was close, but they capped 2024 with a 53-50 victory over the Marshall Hilltoppers. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked fifth, while the Hilltoppers are ranked 114th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Orono pushed their record up to 9-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.0 points per game. As for Marshall, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-3.

Orono didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 53-50 victory against Marshall/Lakeview Christian Academy on the 27th. Marshall has also already played their next contest, a 91-70 defeat against Providence Academy on the 28th.
