Baseball Game Preview: York Catholic Fighting Irish vs. Delone Catholic Squires

The York Catholic Fighting Irish will venture away from home to challenge the Delone Catholic Squires at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. York Catholic has given up an average of 7.4 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

York Catholic is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Bermudian Springs just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Monday. They lost 17-1 to the Eagles. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 21, 2022, but that streak is no more.

York Catholic saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Connor Latrechiano, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Delone Catholic won against Hanover on Thursday with seven runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Monday. The Squires sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 victory over Biglerville. Winning may never get old, but the Squires sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Preston Younkins was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Groft, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Delone Catholic pushed their record up to 9-7 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.6 runs over those games. As for York Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-10.

York Catholic suffered a grim 7-1 defeat to Delone Catholic in their previous meeting on April 9th. Can the Fighting Irish avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
