Baseball Recap: South Stokes Comes Up Short

South Stokes and East Wilkes squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but South Stokes had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Cardinals by a score of 8-6. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Tucker Monday was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He pitched three innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Monday was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. South Stokes is 5-2 when Monday posts two or more runs, but 5-13 otherwise.

Monday wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ryan Duggins, who went 3-for-4 with one run. Xander Martin was another, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.

South Stokes has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-15 record this season. As for East Wilkes, they pushed their record up to 16-7 with the win, which was their third straight at home.

South Stokes does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for East Wilkes, they have already played their next matchup, a 3-2 loss against Uwharrie Charter Academy on the 9th.
