Softball Recap: Geneva Vikings vs. Wheaton North Falcons
Geneva had lost seven straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 7-20 to make it eight. They took a 12-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wheaton North Falcons. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Falcons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-2 back in April.
Clara Lyons made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Jillian Bultmann, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
As for Wheaton North, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games.
On Wheaton North's side, they got a great performance from Madison Moore as she struck out nine batters over 5.1 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Those nine strikeouts gave Moore a new career-high.
At the plate, Makayla Hammer was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Hana Stoner was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Looking ahead, Geneva will face off against St. Charles East at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Wheaton North, they will take on Glenbard North at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Falcons surely won't give up without a fight.
