Softball Recap: Kirtland Has No Trouble Against Beachwood

Kirtland's game on Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 17-3 margin over the Beachwood Bison. Considering the Hornets have won four contests by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Julia Cottrell made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Cottrell was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.

In other pitching news, Gracie Svigel looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Maggie Kothera was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. She is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Adison Fleming, who went 1-for-4 with three stolen bases and three runs.

Kirtland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .394. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Beachwood only posted a batting average of .238.

Kirtland's victory bumped their record up to 4-7. As for Beachwood, they dropped their record down to 1-7 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Coming up, Kirtland will venture away from home to challenge Berkshire at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Beachwood will be paying especially close attention to the Hornets' game: after the Hornets face off against the Badgers, they'll take on Beachwood again at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
