Football Recap: Derry Comes Up Short + How To Watch

Derry was the 21-7 winner over Freeport when they last played one another back in August of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Trojans were outmatched by the Yellowjackets and fell 49-6. Having soared to a lofty 33 points in the game before, the Trojans couldn't push the score so high this time.

When it comes to explaining why Derry lost on Friday, don't look at Max Doherty. Despite the final result, he rushed for 98 yards and one touchdown, and also picked up 34 receiving yards.

Drew Ross had an outrageously good game for Freeport as he rushed for 63 yards and one TD, and also threw for 127 yards and a pair of touchdowns. What's more, Ross racked up 140.1 passer rating, the most he's had since back in October of 2024.

Derry dropped their record down to 1-1 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Freeport, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Derry will head out to square off against Deer Lakes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Freeport, they are headed away from home for the first time to challenge Quaker Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
