Football Recap: Derry Takes a Loss + How To Watch

After soaring to 33 points the game before, Derry was a bit more limited in their game on Friday. They had to suffer through a 49-6 loss at the hands of the Freeport Yellowjackets. The Trojans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Yellowjackets apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in August of 2024.

Despite the loss, Derry still got an impressive performance from Max Doherty, who rushed for 98 yards and one score, and also picked up 34 receiving yards.

Drew Ross was nothing short of spectacular for Freeport: he rushed for 63 yards and one TD, and also threw for 127 yards and a pair of touchdowns. What's more, Ross racked up 140.1 passer rating, the most he's had since back in October of 2024.

Derry dropped their record down to 1-1 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Freeport, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Derry didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 24-21 victory against Deer Lakes on the 5th. As for Freeport, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 42-7 win against Quaker Valley on the 5th.
