Football Recap: Gibbs Gets Big Win over Higher-Ranked Anderson County + How To Watch

Gibbs lost to Anderson County back in October of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The Eagles walked away with a 35-28 win over the Mavericks. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Eagles' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee football rankings (they are ranked 89th, while the Mavericks are ranked 24th).

Gibbs found their leader in sophomore Keith Jones, who threw for 196 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 passes.

When it comes to explaining why Anderson County lost, don't look at Jayzon Thompson. Despite the final result, he rushed for 195 yards and three TDs.

Gibbs pushed their record up to 5-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 14.0 points on average over those games. As for Anderson County, they moved to 4-2 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Gibbs and Anderson County will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next games. The next time the Eagles see the field they'll take on Fulton at 7:00 p.m. on the 17th. As for Anderson County, their break will end when they face Union County at 7:30 p.m. on the 17th.
