Basketball Recap: Tekoa Academy Comes Up Short

Tekoa Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 34-25 to the Cristo Rey Jesuit Lions. The match was a 12-12 toss-up at halftime, but the Knight couldn't quite close it out.

Leading Cristo Rey Jesuit to victory were Mayte Hernandez and Jacora Dearman. Hernandez went 9 for 11 on her way to 21 points, while Dearman posted seven points and six rebounds. What's more, Hernandez also racked up two steals, the most she's had since back in January of 2024.

Tekoa Academy's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Cristo Rey Jesuit, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-6 record this season.

Tekoa Academy will head out to challenge Pro-Vision Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Cristo Rey Jesuit, they will host Bob Hope at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cristo Rey Jesuit has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
