Baseball Recap: Eagle Valley Takes a Loss

Eagle Valley extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 7-12 in the process. They fell 8-4 to the Battle Mountain Huskies. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Huskies this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-4 on Tuesday.

Eagle Valley saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hudson Rozga, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Another was James Bivins, who went 1-for-2 with two runs.

As for Battle Mountain, they pushed their record up to 10-9 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games.

On Battle Mountain's side, Cole Lewis was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Lewis has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple and one run.

In other batting news, Battle Mountain let Jack Reed and Shaeffer Dodds8 run wild. Reed went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs, while Dodds8 got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most stolen bases Reed has posted since back in April.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Eagle Valley will face off against Glenwood Springs at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Battle Mountain, they will challenge Rifle at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Bears have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.1 runs per game on average), something the Huskies will no doubt try to take advantage of.
