Football Game Preview: Kirby Cougars vs. Southwind Jaguars

The Kirby Cougars are taking a road trip to face off against the Southwind Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Kirby sitting on three straight victories and Southwind on six.

Kirby's defense heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They took down Millington Central 19-0.

Meanwhile, Southwind's game on Thursday was all tied up 21-21 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They snuck past Briarcrest Christian with a 48-42 win.

Kirby better keep an eye on Kelvin Perkins. He was instrumental in Southwind's win, rushing for 97 yards and one score on only eight carries, while also throwing for 152 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 81.2% of his passes. Perkins also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making two total tackles (1.0 for loss) and defending one pass. Jordan Daniels got in on the action too, returning a kick for a touchdown.

Kirby's record now sits at 4-2. As for Southwind, their record is now 6-0.

Kirby was taken down by Southwind 42-6 in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
