The Jefferson Area Falcons will square off against the Geneva Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
On Thursday, Jefferson Area came up short against Edgewood and fell 11-7. The Falcons haven't had much luck with the Warriors recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Makenna Stanich and Julia Sprague did some serious damage despite the final result: Stanich went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run, while Sprague went 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Those RBI marked the first that Stanich has brought in this season. Rylee Demattia was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Maplewood typically has all the answers at home, but on Saturday Geneva proved too difficult a challenge. They were the clear victors by a 12-3 margin over the Rockets. Considering the Eagles have won four matches by more than eight runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Annabelle Bragg spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Claire Cafaro was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kailyn Cerjan, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Geneva kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Geneva is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Jefferson Area, they now have a losing record of 8-9.
Jefferson Area took their victory against Geneva in their previous matchup on April 9th by a conclusive 11-0 score. Do the Falcons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
