The Deering Rams will square off against the Scarborough Red Storm at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Deering has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Scarborough will arrive with 23 straight victories.
Deering came up short against Gorham on Monday, falling 20-1.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last contest, Scarborough made sure to put some runs up on the board against Kennebunk on Monday. The Red Storm put the hurt on the Rams with a sharp 12-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Red Storm, who have now won five games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Ryan Shugars made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Nate Masters looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Matthew Fallona, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in June of 2024. Another player making a difference was Cam Wellman, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Scarborough always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .588. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kennebunk only posted an OBP of .375.
Scarborough pushed their record up to 10-0 with the victory, which was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.4 runs over those games. As for Deering, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-9.
Deering skirted past Scarborough 8-7 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Will the Rams repeat their success, or do the Red Storm have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
