Softball Recap: St. Helens Extends Winning Streak to Seven

St. Helens came tearing into Thursday's game with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Seaside Seagulls get on the board and left with a 13-0 win. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by six runs or more this season.

Eme Curaming made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Jadyn Pense and Addy Ellis did most of the damage at the plate: Pense went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Ellis went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave Pense a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Maddy Lahey, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

St. Helens pushed their record up to 12-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Seaside, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-10.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. St. Helens is set to square off against their familiar foe Astoria at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Lions 2, the Fishermen 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Seaside will face off against rival Tillamook at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
