Preview: Plattsburgh Hornets vs. Moriah Vikings
Plattsburgh has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Moriah Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, Plattsburgh humbled Northeastern Clinton with a 59-32 victory. Given Plattsburgh's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 107th, while Northeastern Clinton is ranked 493rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Moriah is still undefeated this season after their match against Saranac on Friday, but Saranac came as close as anyone has to beating them. Moriah came out on top in a nail-biter against Saranac and snuck past 54-52. Despite the victory, that was the fewest points Moriah has scored all season.
Moriah got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Dieter Olcott out in front who scored four points along with ten rebounds and eight steals. Olcott is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Joe Pelkey was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six rebounds and five assists.
Plattsburgh pushed their record up to 5-2 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 22.67 points. As for Moriah, their win bumped their record up to 5-0.
Plattsburgh was taken down by Moriah 71-34 when the teams last played back in December of 2022. Thankfully for Plattsburgh, Rowan Swan (who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
