Baseball Recap: Cambria Heights Comes Up Short

Cambria Heights was the 7-5 winner over Portage when they last played one another back in April of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Highlanders fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 3-2 on Monday.

Nolan Clawson was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run.

In other pitching news, Cambria Heights got a good showing from Austin Sprague, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Sprague has become a key player for the Highlanders: the team is 6-3 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 3-4 otherwise.

Clawson wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Bryce Lewis, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

Cambria Heights' defeat dropped their record down to 9-7. As for Portage, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-13.

While Cambria Heights had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
