Baseball Recap: Genesee Comes Up Short

Genesee had lost three straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 6-11-1 to make it four. They lost 19-1 to the Clearwater Valley Rams. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Rams this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-0 on Saturday.

As for Clearwater Valley, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-9. The result was nothing new for the Rams, who have now won 11 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

For Clearwater Valley's part, Josh Gardner was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Gardner was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Clearwater Valley's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 7-9 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Tiago Pickering was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs. He has become a key player for Clearwater Valley: the team is 8-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 4-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Barak Meyer, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Genesee does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Clearwater Valley, they will take on Kendrick at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Rams' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 11.9 runs per game this season.
