Basketball Recap: Deuce Best's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Starmount over Wilkes Central

Starmount was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against the Wilkes Central Eagles, falling 75-50. The Rams were not able to make up for their loss to the Eagles from their previous meeting back in December of 2023.

Several Rams players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Deuce Best, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Colton Allen, who posted 18 points along with seven rebounds and six steals.

Even though they lost, Starmount smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

Wilkes Central's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Fernando Allen, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. Brady Scott was another key player, putting up 17 points and six rebounds.

Starmount's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Wilkes Central, the victory got them back to even at 6-6.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing West Wilkes the next time they take the court. Starmount will host West Wilkes at 5:15 p.m. on Monday, while Wilkes Central will host them at 6:45 p.m. on Friday.
