Mater Dei and Roxana are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Knights will venture away from home to square off against the Shells at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
Last Wednesday, Mater Dei came up short against Nashville and fell 6-2. The Knights have struggled against the Hornets recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.
Mater Dei saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jack Reynolds, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, while Roxana put up plenty of runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for East Alton-Wood River. The Shells put the hurt on the Oilers with a sharp 13-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Shells, who have now won five matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Not much got past Landon Sitze, who gave up just a hit to keep East Alton-Wood River off the board. Sitze has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Roxana got a massive performance out of Kael Hester, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. What's more, Hester posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in March. Another player making a difference was Max Autery, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one double.
Roxana is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-2-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Mater Dei, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.
Mater Dei couldn't quite get it done against Roxana in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 as they fell 4-1. Can the Knights avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
