Basketball Game Preview: Golden Demons vs. Thomas Jefferson Spartans

The Golden Demons will square off against the Thomas Jefferson Spartans at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Golden will be strutting in after a victory while Thomas Jefferson will be coming in after a defeat.

Last Thursday, Golden made easy work of Summit and carried off a 59-37 win. The Demons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight games by 22 points or more this season.

Golden's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Ashlyn Bates, who went 5 of 12 en route to 16 points along with seven rebounds and five steals, and Kempley Wellman, who went 5 for 11 on her way to 16 points and five assists. Those five assists gave Wellman a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Freya Wellman, who posted five points and three steals.

Meanwhile, Thomas Jefferson played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by George Washington and fell 60-32. The loss continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Patriots: they've now lost seven in a row.

Golden will have to contain Leila Olbricht-Simon as she made an impact in Thomas Jefferson's last game. She scored eight points and 14 boards. With that strong performance, Olbricht-Simon is now averaging an impressive 8.1 rebounds per game. Anisa Adrovic was another key player, putting up nine points.

Even though they lost, Thomas Jefferson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in six consecutive contests.

Golden pushed their record up to 12-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 26.9 points. As for Thomas Jefferson, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-7.
