South Brunswick takes loss despite strong efforts from Meryn Deutsch and Matea Moye

Recap: South Brunswick Cougars vs. Topsail Pirates

The South Brunswick Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. They lost to Topsail on the road by a decisive 52-33 margin. While losing is never fun, South Brunswick can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 350th, while Topsail is ranked 161st).

Matea Moye and Meryn Deutsch certainly did their best on Wednesday to try and avoid the loss. Moye scored eight points along with nine rebounds, while Deutsch scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. That's the first time this season that Moye pulled down eight or more rebounds.

It was another big night for Rhianna Garmendiz, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds and two steals for Topsail. The team also got some help courtesy of Charley Moore, who scored nine points along with eight steals and five rebounds.

South Brunswick has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season. As for Topsail, their victory bumped their record up to 9-6.

South Brunswick will head out on the road to take on West Brunswick at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Topsail, they will be playing at home against Laney at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
