Basketball Game Preview: Father McGivney Catholic Griffins vs. Valmeyer Pirates

Father McGivney Catholic and Valmeyer are an even 4-4 against one another since January of 2017, but not for long. The Father McGivney Catholic Griffins will take on the Valmeyer Pirates at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Father McGivney Catholic's tournament run continued when they took on Litchfield on Saturday. Father McGivney Catholic fell to Litchfield 46-40.

Despite the loss, Father McGivney Catholic got top-tier performance from Chase Jansen, who posted 22 points and eight rebounds. That's the most points Jansen has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of David Carroll, who put up six points and five boards.

Meanwhile, Valmeyer came up short against New Athens on Friday and fell 66-58. The Pirates have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Valmeyer's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Father McGivney Catholic, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-12 record this season.

Father McGivney Catholic beat Valmeyer 44-36 when the teams last played back in January of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Father McGivney Catholic since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
