Basketball Recap: Ava Schlotzhauer Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Norwood

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Tipton had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They strolled past the Norwood Pirates with points to spare, taking the game 61-42. The Cardinals haven't had any issues with the Pirates recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Tipton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ava Schlotzhauer led the charge by dropping a double-double with 20 points and ten boards. Schlotzhauer's big performance that morning made it 18 games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Clara Williams, who went 6-for-10 on her way to 15 points and six steals.

Tipton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in six consecutive contests.

Norwood's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Kalie Chadwell, who shot 56% from the field to rack up 13 points, and Autumn Gunter, who posted 12 points and six rebounds. Chadwell has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Quinncy Vestal was another key player, putting up six points.

Tipton's win bumped their record up to 27-5. As for Norwood, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 25-7.
