Basketball Recap: Countryside Cougars vs. St. Petersburg Green Devils
It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Countryside can now relate to. They fell 60-52 to the St. Petersburg Green Devils on Thursday. It was the first time this season that the Cougars let down their fans at home.
Despite the loss, Countryside still got an impressive performance from Corey Perlin, who went 10-for-20 to rack up 30 points and three steals. That was a full 57.7% of Countryside's points, marking the third time in a row Perlin has posted more than a third of the team's points.
St. Petersburg was led to victory by Nijaun Harris and Julian Macon. Harris dropped a double-double with 22 points and ten boards, while Macon put up ten points in addition to eight rebounds and three blocks. The dominant performance also gave Harris a new career-high in steals (five). Nicholas Wilson was another key player, putting up nine points.
Countryside suffered their first home loss, dropping their record down to 20-7. As for St. Petersburg, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-12.
Countryside does not have any more games scheduled as of now. After both having extra time off, St. Petersburg and Blanche Ely will dust off their jerseys to take on one another at 7:00 p.m. on March 5th. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Blanche Ely has won four straight at home, while St. Petersburg won four straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
