Softball Recap: Southmont Wins Going Away Against Lebanon

Southmont won the last time they faced Lebanon and things went their way on Thursday too. The Mounties put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 12-6 victory. Considering the Mounties have won 11 games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Ella Barry spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on 15 hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, Southmont let Catie Himes and Mallory Mason run wild. Himes went 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI, while Mason went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double. Those four RBI gave Himes a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kendall Priebe, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Southmont lost a few balls and finished the game with four home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

The win made it two in a row for Southmont and bumps their season record up to 14-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 8 runs in those games. As for Lebanon, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 17-9.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Southmont will host Western Boone at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Lebanon, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Terre Haute South Vigo at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
