Softball Recap: Suffern Comes Up Short

Suffern extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 20 on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-7. They came up short against the Albertus Magnus Falcons, falling 14-0. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Mounties were not able to get on the board.

As for Albertus Magnus, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-4. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games.

For Albertus Magnus' part, Abigail Swanson got the start for Albertus Magnus and what a start it was: she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Swanson has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Albertus Magnus got a massive performance out of Aubrey Dwyer, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Those four hits gave Dwyer a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lilly Valenzano, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Looking ahead, Suffern will venture away from home to take on Tappan Zee at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Mounties' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Dutchmen have averaged an impressive 7.8 runs per game this season. As for Albertus Magnus, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Maria Regina at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
