Niles West lost to Vernon Hills on Tuesday, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The Wolves came out on top in a nail-biter against the Cougars, sneaking past 4-2.

Niles West got a great performance from Shaylen Patel as he pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits.

On the hitting side, Ryan Lee and Christian Guzman did most of the damage at the plate: Lee went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI, while Guzman went 1-for-2 with two runs and one double. Another player making a difference was Lucas Som, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Niles West hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 2-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Niles West's win bumped their record up to 10-13. As for Vernon Hills, their loss dropped their record down to 8-14.

Looking ahead, Niles West will head out on the road to face off against New Trier at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
