Recap: Atholton Raiders vs. Oakland Mills Scorpions
The Atholton Raiders came tearing into Wednesday's game with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.4 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against Oakland Mills by a score of 47-40. Given Atholton's advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 64th, while the Scorpions are ranked 249th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Atholton to victory were Amir Shaheed and Deion Dent. Shaheed scored 15 points along with four steals, while Dent scored 22 points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Camden Thibeault, who scored four points along with five steals.
Atholton has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 11-5 record this season. As for Oakland Mills, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-11.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Atholton will square off against the Hawks at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. River Hill knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 16 games -- so hopefully the Raiders likes a good challenge. As for Oakland Mills, they will head out on the road to square off against the Vikings at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
