Basketball Game Preview: Muncy Indians vs. South Williamsport Mountaineers

The Muncy Indians will take on the South Williamsport Mountaineers in a holiday battle at at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Last Wednesday, Muncy earned a 61-54 win over Neumann Regional Academy.

Muncy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Nathan Rogers out in front who went 7 for 13 on his way to 16 points in addition to eight boards and five assists. Rogers has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Stiles Eyer, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds.

Muncy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in eight consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for South Williamsport, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. It was close, but they ultimately received the gift of a 66-63 win from a begrudging Mountaineers squad. While they didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Muncy's victory was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-1. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.6 points per game. As for South Williamsport, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.

Muncy was able to grind out a solid victory over South Williamsport in their previous meeting back in February, winning 55-46. Does Muncy have another victory up their sleeve, or will South Williamsport turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
