The Pocono Mountain East Cardinals will face off against the Easton Area Rovers at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. Pocono Mountain East is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.3 runs per game this season.
Easton Area is facing Pocono Mountain East at the wrong time: Pocono Mountain East suffered their first home loss of the season on Tuesday and they're likely out for redemption. They fell just short of the Cavaliers by a score of 6-5. Cardinals fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Cavaliers since on Tuesday.
Vincent Gambino was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Connor Triano, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Easton Area's offense. They fell just short of Nazareth Area by a score of 2-0 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Rovers have suffered against the Blue Eagles since May 5, 2022.
Nolan Fuller spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up nine Ks.
On the hitting side, Easton Area saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Khamryn Singto, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base.
This is the second loss in a row for Easton Area and nudges their season record down to 3-3. Even worse, they were so close both times: the losses came by an average of only 1.5 runs. As for Pocono Mountain East, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-2.
Easton Area's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Pocono Mountain East has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .457. It's a different story for Easton Area, though, as they've only averaged .358. Will they be able to contain Pocono Mountain East's hitters?
