The Peniel Baptist Academy Warriors will challenge the Taylor Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.
On Friday, everything went Peniel Baptist Academy's way against Calvary Christian Academy as Peniel Baptist Academy made off with a 14-3 win.
Brandon Turner made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. Turner was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Holden Moore, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. What's more, he posted three hits, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Brody Lail, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Peniel Baptist Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Calvary Christian Academy only posted an OBP of .375.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Taylor, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They put the hurt on Crescent City with a sharp 13-1 victory on Friday. That 12 run margin sets a new team best for the Wildcats this season.
Like Peniel Baptist Academy, Taylor also got a great game from a two-way player: Drew Moyer. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Moyer has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Alex Ramos was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-2. He also put up a double, which washis first of the season. Chase Heimbach was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3.
Taylor's win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs over those games. As for Peniel Baptist Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 2-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Peniel Baptist Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Taylor struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Peniel Baptist Academy might still be hurting after the 12-3 defeat they got from Taylor in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. Can Peniel Baptist Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
