Basketball Recap: The Academy Takes a Loss

After flying high against Fort Morgan last Saturday, The Academy came back down to earth. The Academy Wildcats lost to the Colorado Academy Mustangs on the road by a 64-50 margin on Wednesday. The Wildcats have struggled against the Mustangs recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.

When it comes to explaining why The Academy lost, don't look at CJ Hernandez. Despite the final result, he went 6 of 15 en route to 17 points along with six steals and five boards. Hernandez is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed four or more in the last three games he's played. Aydon Austin also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Colorado Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Clyde Love led the charge by going 7 for 17 on his way to 19 points in addition to six assists and five rebounds. That's the most assists Love has posted since back in January of 2024. James Claypool was another key player, going 8 of 10 en route to 20 points and five boards.

The Academy now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Colorado Academy, their record now sits at 9-5.

The Academy will look to defend their home court on Friday against Prospect Ridge Academy at 7:00 p.m. As for Colorado Academy, they will face off against Jefferson Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Colorado Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.5 points per game this season.
