Baseball Recap: Plains Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Lubbock Christian, Plains was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They walked away with an 11-6 victory over the Brownfield Cubs. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Cowboys considering their one-run performance the game before.

Braylon Ward was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. He has become a key player for Plains: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-4 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Youngblood, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Plains always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .542. They are 6-2 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Plains now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Brownfield, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-15-1.

Plains and Brownfield could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. The Cowboys (ranked 1023rd) will meet Liberty (ranked 179th) at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Brownfield will take on Denver City at 4:30 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (761 vs. 186).
