Greyhounds have big lead after winning three state championships during fall season.

Thanks to three state championships and a pair of runner-up finishes,
Carmel (Ind.) holds down first place in the MaxPreps Cup rankings after the completion of the fall sports season.
The MaxPreps Cup is an awards competition that determines the best overall sports programs in the country, based on a formula created by MaxPreps.
Carmel won state titles in boys and girls cross country as well as girls golf. The Greyhounds also finished second in the state in football and volleyball. Carmel also had three teams nationally ranked, including both cross country teams and the girls soccer team.
Based on the MaxPreps Cup formula, Carmel received 526 total points for its performance during the fall season. It ranks 85 points ahead of
Webb (Knoxville, Tenn.), which is in second place with 441 points. Another Indiana school,
Avon (Ind.), is in third place with 435 points.
Tupelo (Miss.) is the only other school over 400 points with 406.
Webb won Division II 1A state titles in football, volleyball and boys and girls cross country in Tennessee and also finished second in boys golf. Avon, meanwhile, won state titles in girls soccer and volleyball, and finished second in boys soccer. Both soccer teams and the volleyball team were all nationally ranked as well. Tupelo captured four state titles: boys and girls swimming and boys and girls cross country. The football team also finished second in the state.
MaxPreps Cup rankings are compiled by giving schools points for
finishing first or second at the state level. For states that don't have
state competition, point totals were adjusted to award first and
second-place teams at the section level. Points were also awarded for
size of playoff division (championships won at the large school level
were worth more than championships at the small-school level), size of
state (championships for Texas, for example, were worth more than
championships for less populous states like Alaska) and type of sport
(football championships were worth more than tennis championships).
National
rankings were also included in the tabulation of points. The MaxPreps
Computer Rankings for soccer are utilized while the
Xcellent 25 rankings were used for football and volleyball. Dyestat's national rankings for cross country were also utilized.
Westminster (Atlanta) won the
2012-13 MaxPreps Cup. Carmel finished in sixth place while Webb was 15th.
